Leiston Wanderers 0 BUOB 4

Bramford continued their impressive start to the season when they defeated holders Leiston Wanderers on their own patch by four goals to nil in this first round Junior Cup encounter. Both sides were certainly up for what is always a keenly contested encounter between these two rivals and Bramford competed very well physically before imposing their passing style on their hosts. Bramford's lightning breaks generated through their talented midfield duo of Stuart Rodger and Scott Welton almost produced goals on a couple of occasions fairly early on with Asherly Rose and Stan Wragg putting in some great early crosses. It was Stuart Rodger himself who finally put Bramford ahead, taking a fine lay off from Mattie McLaughlin and striking well from twenty-five yards, the ball taking a deflection off a defender, leaving the Leiston keeper helpless as the ball nestled in the bottom right corner. Although Leiston forced some corners towards the end of the half, resolute and determined defending by a defence well marshalled by central defenders Aron Boorman and Darren Smith protected keeper Gary Cox who was never really troubled. Full backs Adam Turner and Mattie Pryke weren't giving anything away down the flanks and always looked for the short ball to their midfielders to start counter attacks.

The second period continued with Bramford producing well crafted counter attacks which repeatedly put Leiston under pressure and the lead was extended with a delightful finish from hard working Ian Buxton who fastened on to a great through ball from Darren Smith and clipped the ball over the keeper and into the net. An almost identical goal followed when Ian Buxton flicked the ball over the last defender and Asherly Rose showed speed and determination in beating the keeper to the ball and again lifting his effort into the unguarded net. Ian Buxton then hit a glorious drive from twenty five yards after being set clear down the right channel and his effort clipped the top of the bar with the keeper beaten. With fifteen minutes left, the superb Mattie McLaughlin whose speed and skill had kept Leiston on the back foot the whole game, scored a deserved fourth when he controlled a great channel ball, cut inside and buried his shot into the bottom left corner of the home net. This was probably Bramford?s best performance since leaving the youth game.
