John Bull Rangers 2 BUOB 6

The playing surface at Rushmere for this second round tie in the SFA Sunday Shield was superb and Bramford were quickly into their stride with Drew Turner fastening on to a through ball from co-strike partner, Ian Buxton, and slipping the ball past the home keeper after a rebound.

Some rather sloppy play from the visitors presented the hosts with an opportunity which was well converted to level the scores. The game became a little scrappy after this score although Bramford regained the lead when Ian Buxton drove home from close range, giving the keeper no chance.

The third goal was a very sweet strike from Asherley Rose who found himself unmarked in the box and he took full advantage volleying the ball into the far corner of the net. John Bull did create some panic in the Bramford defence on a few occasions and keeper Gary Cox had to be alert to some good through balls into his area.

However, Bramford did extend their lead before the interval although the goal was somewhat unfortunate for the home side. From a free kick taken by Darren Smith, Ian Buxton rose with a defender who could do no more than loop the ball past his helpless keeper. There were some keen tackles in midfield, although the game was played in a good spirit with players taking and giving knocks without complaint.

John Bull reduced the arrears through a penalty after fifteen minutes of the second period but Bramford regained their cushion when Scott Welton delightfully chipped the keeper. The final goal came from a fine move which started through Scott Welton deep in the Bramford half and eventually finished when a great cross from Stan Wragg found the head of Adam Turner who put his effort into the right hand side of the net.

Dan Turner put in a fine half hour in the right back slot and the other substitute, Stan Wragg, featured in a number of well constructed breaks in addition to making the final goal. At times Bramford's passing game was back to its best. Our thanks to Bill Case, the man in the middle, and to John Bull for their part in an entertaining encounter.
